As an important and growing part of the workforce, women are working harder than before; often more than their male counterparts. But with more work, comes less time and more stress. Are you anxious because of deadlines at work? Do you feel tired after coming home? Do you spend your weekends doing chores? This is the reality of many working women in today’s society. Women juggle many responsibilities and don’t have the opportunity to take time out of their busy lives to take care of themselves. Self-care rarely gets added to their to-do list and if it does, it rarely gets crossed off.

Yoga can help women in more ways than you’d think. Yoga doesn’t just help in boosting your strength and toning your muscle, it’s also great at increasing your awareness and reducing anxiety. For women who don’t get time to work on self-improvement, simply performing yoga for an hour daily can be the key to balancing work and life.

Unlike most exercise routines, yoga can be done without any special equipment. All you need is a yoga mat and the willingness to fit yoga into your busy schedule. There are even some asanas that can be done while sitting in a chair, making it even easier to do. With regular practice, and even just one session makes a difference. You’ll find yourself becoming calmer, handling anxiety well and driving away hours of built-up tension in your muscles. You find your energy levels increasing, making it easier to tackle your tasks. There are numerous other benefits for modern women. And it all starts with regular practice of yoga.

Here’s how yoga can be incorporated into your daily routine.

  • Start your day with meditation, whether it’s five minutes or fifteen. The peace of mind and calmness that comes through meditation stays with you throughout the day, helping you manage stress better.
  • Keep half-an-hour to an hour in your schedule aside for a yoga session. If you can’t attend a class, practice yoga at home.
  • If you’re a beginner, you can start off your yoga journey with asanas like Tadasana (Mountain Pose), Vrikshasana (Tree Pose), Adho Mukh Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog Pose), Trikonasana (Triangle Pose), and Naukasana (Boat Pose).
  • Don’t let myths keep you away from yoga either. There are no boxes you have to fill to be able to do yoga. There are no age restrictions, you don’t have to be flexible when you start, and you definitely don’t need to fit any definition of ‘fit’.
  • Precautions are always recommended if you have serious medical issues but for women who suffer from small aches and pains, yoga can help with healing those too.

Yoga is a practice that can be incorporated into the lifestyle of any modern woman. It’s a holistic practice with long-lasting benefits that can be achieved simply by moving your body into structured poses. It’s been effective enough to be practiced for centuries, and it continues to get upgraded with newer forms from time to time. Could you ask for a better seal of approval than that? Try yoga for yourself and experience the benefits first-hand.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
